Vision

- Arthur Schopenhauer

“Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.”

Philip G. Potter has concentrated his career on bridging the business of Wall Street and the technology that drives it. Starting his career in banking at Morgan Stanley and Bear Stearns, he focused on automated portfolio management, technological infrastructure, and software development. His educational background, including a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Yale University, played a foundational role in his ability to innovate and lead in these areas.

Over the next decade, Phil founded and sold several broker/dealer firms, concentrating on developing cutting-edge, automated trading technology. This phase of his career marked a significant transition from traditional finance to the burgeoning field of cryptocurrency.

After recognizing the potential of Bitcoin while arbitrage trading, Phil made a pivotal move to join cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex in early 2014 as Chief Strategy Officer. There, he was instrumental in creating and founding Tether, the most widely used stablecoin in the industry, with a market valuation at its peak of $110B. This venture, alongside his Yale education and his extensive experience in traditional finance, established Phil as a prominent figure in both the conventional and crypto finance sectors.

Since 2021, Phil has co-founded and serves as Chief Strategy Officer of Self ID, a decentralized, self-sovereign identity, and personal data company. In 2023, he evolved his single-family office, Potter Ventures LLC, into Welara Management LLC, transitioning into an independent, multi-family office and wealth advisor. This development underscores his commitment to excellence for first-generation wealth creators and their families globally.

Apart from his professional achievements, Phil harbors a deep-seated passion for film, TV, and entertainment. This interest is not just a hobby but an extension of his creative vision, mirroring the innovation he brings to finance and technology. Phil's engagement with the entertainment world reflects his multifaceted personality and his ability to connect with diverse fields, further enriching his unique profile as a dynamic leader in both the corporate and creative realms.
Phil's career is a testament to his passion for technology and innovation, particularly in the crypto space. His journey from Yale to Wall Street, and eventually to a leading role in the cryptocurrency revolution, highlights his unique ability to navigate and influence both the corporate and creative spheres, making a significant impact in both.
